Rehabilitation in sewer networks

Sewers are designed for a certain lifespan under normal operating conditions. Over time the network goes down and pipes should be rehabilitated. Rehabilitation is defined as repair, renewal, and replacement of components to return the system to near-original condition and performance. Rehabilitation includes both replacement and renovation or renewal of an existing pipe. A wide variety of techniques exist to prolong the performance life of wastewater system including: Slip Lining, Spiral-Wound Liners, Cured In Place Pipe Liners and else. Trenchless technology such as pipe bursting is a method of replacement of a deteriorated pipe with a new one. This paper has provided an overview of the research undertaken to date in the area of pipeline rehabilitation using trenchless technology, also features and application of each method have explained.
