Westatealemmathatgivesthenecessaryandsufficientconditionforavertex or edge colouring of a Cartesian product of connected graphs to be a distinguishing colouring. Some applications to this lemma such as calculating the cost and the edge-cost of Cartesian product of paths or cycles are also given.
