More than 80% of the human energy consumption is provide by burning fossil fuels which produces carbon dioxide. Therefore, finding new and effective methods for the separation and capturing carbon dioxide is essential. Among the methods available for carbon dioxide sorption, Poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) which are known as green solvents, due to their unique properties have attracted much attention. In this study, sorption of carbon dioxide in polymeric ionic liquids as a function of pressure and density has been studied by using Genetic Programming to find an empirical correlation to calculate the amount of carbon dioxide loading in terms of concentration (cm3 CO2 / cm3 PIL). The presented empirical correlation is a function of pressure (bar) and density (g/cm3). The experimental data used in the current work includes 85 experimental points of carbon dioxide sorption in polymeric ionic liquids.
