Conergy power converter is among single-phase transformer-less topologies that have been proposed to mitigate the leakage current problem in photovoltaic (PV) systems. It is an NPC derived structure, which significantly reduces the leakage current and improves the efficiency. Conergy includes fewer switches compared to other single-phase transformer-less topologies. The reactive power generation capability contributes to power quality of the grid. In this paper, the capability of the Conergy inverter to inject reactive current into the grid is investigated. The conventional modulation method is evaluated according to this capability, the leakage current issue, and efficiency. Moreover, two novel modulation methods are proposed enabling the reactive power generation. The advantages of the proposed methods are validated using MATLAB/SIMULINK simulations.
