Design and Evaluation of a Mobile Phone-based Health Intervention to Childbearing Fear in Pregnant Women

Background: Mobile technology has increasingly assumed an important role in the treatment of mental disorders such as anxiety, fear and depression in high-income countries whereas in other countries doesn’t attention. So the present study aimed to Design and evaluation of a mobile phone-based health intervention to childbearing fear in pregnant women in Isfahan in 2015-2016.
Materials/Patients and Methods: This was a quasi-experimental research was carried out on 84 pregnant women from May 2015 to March 2016. Pregnant women were divided randomly into two equal groups: (1) The pregnant women in the experimental group (n=42) received spiritual content electronically based on mobile(Multimedia program) in addition to routine prenatal education and (2) The control group received only routine prenatal education (n = 42). Participants’ child bearing fear score was collected before and 4 weeks after intervention. Data were analyzed using Student’s t-test and paired t-test through SPSS (version 16) with a significance level of P 0.05.
Results: results showed that there was not any significant difference between the childbearing fear score of electronic education and control group before intervention (32.2 ± 1.2 vs. 30.01 ± 1.4), (P = 0.425, t = −3.14), but there was a significant difference after 4weeks intervention (29.74 ± 1.2 vs. 32.04 ± 1.4), (P = 0.022, t = −3.44) respectively.
Conclusion: The electronic educational program about spiritual and religious content applied in this study appears decreased childbearing fear of pregnant women. Therefore, the conveyance of this program to earn time for pregnant women and healthcare provider team is suggested as a valuable and appropriate teaching method.
