Language learners need to master the language skills to be able to function appropriately in a second language. Considering the significance of mastering the language skills, in this study, reading and listening as the receptive skills were focused on. The primary purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR), as an important technique in teaching reading, on intermediate EFL learners’ receptive skills (i.e. reading and listening).The CSR technique was selected in this study because of the emphasis it puts on cooperation among learners and teaching new strategies to them. For this purpose, 43 EFL learners participated in this study, 22 in the experimental group and 21 in the control group. The learners in the experimental group were exposed to CSR for 18 sessions while the learners in the control group were exposed to traditional teacher-led approaches. Two versions of the PET test were used as the pretest and posttest in this study. The results of a repeated-measures two-way ANOVA on the collected data revealed that CSR did not affect the comprehension level of the experimental group significantly. The results showed that both groups had improvements in their comprehension level from the pretest to the posttest and there was not a significant difference between the improvements in the experimental and control groups. The implications and applications of the study will be further discussed.
