Objective: Drug interactions may be one of the issues affecting anesthetic on recovery time. The purpose of this study was to evaluate drug interaction the Sulfamethazine and Ketamine in recovery time from Propofol .Material and Methods: 60 male of wistar rats weighing 180-200 g were randomly assigned to three groups (A, B, C). In subgroup A1 Sulfamethazine 30 mg kg^-1 (IP) 1 minutes before Propofol 80 mg kg^-1 (IP) and in subgroup A2 Normal saline was injected. In sub-group B1 repeated doses of Ketamine in 4 days (IP) and then Propofol was injected, and in subgroup B2, a single dose of Ketamine. In subgroup C1 in successive doses of Ketamine in 4 days and before administration of Propofol, Sulfamethazine was injected, and in subgroup C2, the same injection like that of C1 was administered, but in this case instead of successive doses, just a single dose of Ketamine was administered. Clinical parameters of anesthesia such as abdominal reflexes back, pedal and righting reflex back, imbalance walking and normal walking on the table were measured with a stop watch. Results: The recovery time of all the parameters in Sulfamethazine groups was more than the normal saline groups and the difference was statistically significant. The reduction in recovery time was observed in the groups receiving the repeated doses of Ketamine, significantlly. Conclusion: according to these results, it can be said that the interaction of Sulfamethazine with Propofol can increase the free-form of Propofol anesthesia and in this case but the induction effect of liver metabolism by Ketamine of more free from of drug can decrease the recovery time and consequently result in the interaction of Sulfamethazine with Propofol. Therefore, so that plasma protein binding and liver induction have effect on time of duration of action and recovery period of Propofol anesthesia.
