Comparison of autologous and zenologous platelet- rich plasma gel effects on wound healing in rabbit model

Objective: Recently autologous plasma rich platelet was frequently used in wound healing. The present study was designed to evaluate the effect of zenologous platelet gel on the wound healing and compared its effect with autologous platelet gel in rabbit model.Materials methods: 45 rabbits with approximate weight of 1.5 kg in the age range of 7 months to 1 year old were divided to autologous, zenologous and control groups. A 1 cm full thickness of the excision wound was created on the cranial part of the hind limb. Then 5cc of aotologous or zenologous platelet gel was injected to the incised area, according to the related group. On 7th, 14th, and 28th postoperative day, five rabbits of each group were euthanized and skin samples were collected for histopathological evaluations. Results were recorded and analyzed statistically and P values less than 0.05 was considered as significant difference. Results Conclusion: In histopathological examination autologous groups showed a significant difference in fibroblast maturation and collagen deposition in different weeks when compared to zenologous and control groups. Also, zenologous group showed better effect on wound healing than control group. It could be concluded that utilization of zenologous platelet gel has a positive effect on wound healing, but it was not better than autologous platelet gel.
