The effect of treadmill on the recovery of spatial memory during multiple sclerosis in male rats

Objectives: Voluntary exercise as a physiological factor improving memory and learning and it increases the synaptic plastisity. In this investigation, the effect of long and short term exercise on memory in adult male rats with MS in comparison to healthy adualt male rats were evaluated.Methods: For this purpose 56 Wistar rats randomly were divided in 8 groups: 1- Control group, 2- MS group (This group had surgery and ethidium bromide (were injected into hippocampus with the rate of nd spatial memory was assessed using Morise Water for 5 consecutive days following the treatment period.Results Conclusion: The results showed Short-term exercise and Long-term exercise significantly improved spatial memory in experimental models of MS (p 0.05). Also long-term exercise and short-term exerceise in healthy rats improved spatial memory significantly (p 0.05). Memory reduction during MS was improved by exercise. Exercise probably Increased secretion of BDNF, NGF andaffect on neurogenesis and increased activation of antioxidant enzymes. Also exercise seem to Increase gene expression of hippocampus and effects on neurogenesis.
