By this study, techno-economic assessment of generating electricity and desalinated water in multi effect and also multi stage flash desalination plants by applying a coupled arrangement of parabolic direct steam generator and a packaged boiler is investigated. Generated steam in parabolic solar trough and packaged boiler is used in a Rankine cycle in order to generate electricity. An extraction of steam turbine is also used as the heating steam of desalination plants in order to produce 5 t/h fresh water in MED and also MSF systems which will result in various operational features of the whole cycle. In conclusion a techno- economic comparison of applying these two different desalination plants will be accomplished to select the optimum system which provides the most efficient operation of parabolic trough and steam turbine.
