كدو كه در طب سنتي به نام قرع ويقطين معروف است٬ گياهي علفي ويكساله٬برگ هاي آن قلبي ٬پهن بادمبرگ بلند پوشيده از كرك زبر وگياهي خزنده است .گل هاي آن زرد رنگ وبه صورت گل ماده وگل نر بر روي يك پايه قراردارد. طبق نظر حكماي طب سنتي سرد وتر است واثراتي همچون ضد كرم كدو٬خنك كننده ٬ مرطوب كننده٬ باز كننده مجاري وتصفيه كننده خون دارد.مشخصات ذكر شده در منابع طب سنتي با مشخصات گياه كدو با نام علمي Cucubita pepo مطابقت دارد.
