In structural design codes, failure limit is an important issue. Besides, finite element method is a widespread tool for analysis of structures. In finite element analysis, the accuracy of results is highly under influence of mesh density. In this study, a plate on elastic foundation was modeled in different mesh densities and then response function was obtained for maximum deflection by using of response surface methodology for acceptable finite element model. In continue, by defining of different failure limits for maximum deflection, performance functions for reliability analysis were calculated and also Monte Carlo simulation was employed for reliability evaluation of plate on elastic foundation. Results showed that finite element has considerable effect for choosing a failure limit in reliability analysis.
