انسان از بدو تولد، مراحل مختلفي از رشد را طي مي‌كند كه هر يك از آنها با تغييرات و ويژگي‌هاي جسمي و رواني خاصي همراه بوده و نيازهاي ويژه‌اي را در پي دارد. بررسي و شناخت ويژگي‌هاي رشد و ارضاي مناسب نيازها در هر مرحله نقش برجسته‌اي در بهداشت جسمي و رواني انسان به عهده دارد. براساس تجربيات و بررسي‌هاي روان شناختي و تربيتي، سال‌هاي اوليه زندگي كودكان نقش اساسي در رشد و پرورش آنان ايفا مي‌نمايد چرا كه 80 درصـد شخصيت كــودك ظرف6 سال اوليه حيات او شكل مي‌گيرد. شايد بتوان گفت مهم ترين سهم خوگري و تفرج در طبيعت خداوندي را بايد به كودكان اختصاص داد. در شهر مشهد اين مسئله بيشتر دچار خلا اطلاعاتي است. كودكان جايگاه مناسبي در شهر امروزي ما ندارند (شيباني،1389: 65). اين تحقيق از نوع كاربردي و روش آن به صورت كيفي است و جمع آوري اطلاعات در آن به روش كتابخانه‌اي، مشاهده و بررسي تصوير ذهني كودكان از محيط با مطالعه نقاشي‌هاي كودكان انجام مي‌شود. نتايج اين تحقيق مي‌تواند در ارتقا برنامه آموزشي و روش تدريس به كودكان ، پاسخگويي به نيازها و ايجاد جايگاهي مطلوب در فضاهاي شهري براي اين گروه از جامعه، كاركردي مطلوب داشته باشد و در عين حال كودكان را براي حضور فعال در نظام آموزشي بالاتر (مدرسه) آماده نمايد.
