The morphologies and viscoelastic properties of the phase-separated Polycarbonate
(PC)/Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) blends have been investigated using Scanning
Electron Microscopy (SEM) and oscillation rheometry. Various rheological criteria based on the
viscoelastic properties of the blends have been used to evaluate the phase inversion. The behavior
of complex viscosity (η*) at low frequencies as the temperature, T, approaches phase separation is
due to the critical concentration fluctuations in the one-phase region. The temperature at
maximum slope of the η* vs. T dependence at low frequencies leads to the identification of the
binodal temperature, whereas a plot of [(G'')2/(G'T)]2/3 vs. 1/T gives the spinodal temperature.
