Vane liquid-gas demisters are widely used as one of the most efficient separators for liquid
droplets. The advantages of high gas velocity tolerance and overall low pressure drop puts these
among the most desirable separators. When evaluating performance of liquid-gas vane demisters,
in order to achieve acceptable results, the effect of eddies in the turbulent flow has to be
considered. In this study the effects of turbulence dispersion models on predicting the efficiency of
vane demisters have been assessed applying computational fluid dynamics (CFD). In the
experiments, for achieving better liquid disposal, vanes were equipped with drainage channels.
Having applied turbulent dispersion models, the comparison between computed separation
efficiency and the corresponding experimental data, illustrated better predictions for small
droplets.
