In this study, cobalt pyrite (CoS2) was produced in aqueous solution from the reaction of different
cobalt salts cobalt chloride, cobalt sulfate and cobalt nitrate with sodium thiosulfate at the low
temperature in a stirred reactor. The solid products were characterized by Fourier transform
infrared spectrometer (FT-IR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy
(SEM). XRD analysis indicated that the products are amorphous at moderate condition. No Co-O
vibrations are found in the IR spectra of the product prepared from cobalt chloride and SEM
images showed that nanostructured powders have different particle size about 70, 40, 20 nm
regarding different cobalt salts, respectively.
