چكيده فارسي :
Grammatical metaphor is divided into two broad areas: ideational and interpersonal. The aim of the present study is to compare the Ideational Grammatical Metaphors in the introduction section of English research articles written by Iranian cardiologists and cardiologists from English speaking countries, using a model proposed by Halliday (1998) on the basis of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL). The corpus of this study consists of 40 randomly selected English articles (i.e., 20 articles written by Iranian cardiologists and 20 articles written by cardiologists from English speaking countries). The investigation, using Mann-Whitney U test, reveals that Iranian cardiologists employ significantly fewer numbers of ideational GMs in the introduction section of the RAs compared to the native English authors. The study concludes that a clear awareness of the pragmatic effect of Ideational Grammatical Metaphor is crucial to the acquisition of rhetorical competence in any discipline.
