In this paper, the effects of welding speed, the electrode motion and the hydrostatic pressure test on residual stress distribution in multi-pass butt-welded modified 9Cr-1Mo steel pipe has been investigated. Welding and temperature field analyzing are simulated using ABAQUS software. The double ellipsoidal distribution moving heat source and temperature dependent properties are considered in simulating the thermo-elastic-plastic analysis to calculate residual stress in butt-welded pipe. To evaluate and ensure the accuracy of modeling results, the simulated residual stress distribution has been compared with experimental measurement, based on hole drilling method. The obtained results show that the maximum residual stress occurs near inner side of the pipe welding line. It decreases as welding speed increases. It is also shown that the other mentioned parameters may have significant effects on magnitude and distribution of residual stress in welded pipe.
