Let X be a Tychonoff space and A(X) be a subring of C(X) containing C*(X). We show that z◦A-ideals of A(X) coincide with its z◦-ideals. It follows that some results of F. Azarpanah and M. Karavan, On nonregular ideals and z◦-ideals of C(X), Czechoslovak Math. J. 55 (2005),
397-402 could be generalized to the intermediate subrings. Using these, we give some new characterizations of almost P-spaces via subrings of C(X) containing C*(X).
