The Application of Translation Brief and the Influence It Has in the Translator Training Settings

This study is an attempt at analyzing and demonstrating to what extent providing translation brief would help translation trainees in reproducing an acceptable target text in comparison with the same target texts translated without having been provided with any translation brief according to translation function. For the purpose of analysis, some texts were chosen, soon would-be translators asked to translate these texts once without receiving a translation brief and once with translation brief provided to them. It is found that the translations done on the base of translation brief are more adequate, qualified and translated faster in comparison to ones done without translation briefs provided to the translator. Moreover, the assessment and evaluation of translations would be rendered objective in the presence and event of a translation brief. The study fits into a category of studies in Translation Studies dedicated to training translation students as professional practitioners for their careers, for academic centers to be prepared for real professional situations. For the purpose of assessing and evaluating participants’ target texts the appraisal model was used.
