Biofloc technology (BFT) has been widely applied in aquaculture and especially on tilapia and tiger shrimp, while leg shrimp its advantages to these species have been very well documented, however, to apply BFT into Artemia farming is rather limited. Artemia is non-obligated filter feeder and relied on natural food in the pond which are pumped from fertilizer pond as routine procedure. Biofloc (BF) is considered as supplementary food for Artemia if they could be created either in fertilizer pond or Artemia pond directly. The BFT therefore has been applied into Artemia farm with the aim to increase/improve the feed level and thus the productivity. The manipulation of C:N to the ratio of 10:1 by adding tapioca into either fertilizer pond or Artemia pond the formation and development of BF has been observed. Moreover, the fluctuation of BF was also measured as a function of salinity, aeration and raking. The study is continuing but applying BFT to Artemia farming so that to display its advantages: 1) BF is comparable food to green water when created at salinity from 60-100 ppt; 2) higher cyst embryos when fed with BF at higher salinity (i.e. 60-100 ppt); 3) higher cyst production in earthen pond when applied BF at 80 ppt; 4) more raking helped to improve cyst production.
