Microalgae(cyanobacteria). are more willing to manipulate conditions for enhancing growth and exopolysaccharide (EPS) production. Hence, there is a need to improve the biomass productivity of microalgae and reduce the production cost.Researches organized available informations on production of EPS under differenl growth conditions by changing some nutritional and physical parameters. Microalgal strains isolated from Noyyal River, was optimized for temperature, pH, carbon source and time of medium. It was found that the EPS production was maximum at pH 7.5, temperature 25c, with sucrose and incubation time 9 days. The production of EPS in Cyanospira Capsulata was investigated under some nutritional parameters (Ca,Mg,or P deficiencies, salinity and pH) . Only Mg shortage caused a significant enhancement the EPS production. On the other hand ,in Nostoc sp .BTA97 and Anabaena sp .BTA990, EPS production was maximum during stationary growth phase while nitrogenase activity was very low and There was not any combined nitrogen source. Cyanothece sp. 113 was tested for EPS production. The optimal cultivation condition for EPS yield was 29°C and continuous illumination at 86.0 μE/M2/S. Several works are available that reported the effects of light intensity in diazotrophic and non-diazotrophic condition. In general, the EPS production showed a positive linear effect with light intensity especially in the presence of combined nitrogen for different Nostoc species,Arthro-spira platensis and cyanothece sp.CCY0110. Filamentous heterocystous forms of cyanobacteria were found to produce higher amount of poly-saccharide in comparison to unicellular forms. Optimum temperature for polysaccharide production was 35°C at the end of 44th day of growth. Lower or higher temperatures had a negative effect on the production of the polysaccharide, indicating that temperature of the culture medium is an important factor to be controlled during production of polysaccharide. Studies show that by varying nutrient media composition and growth conditions of microalgae, biomass and EPS can be enhanced
