This paper proposes a high gain interleaved bidirectional DC-DC converter for the shipboard power system applications (SPSs). The existence of renewable energy sources (RESs) and DC loads in the SPS makes the performance of the DC-DC converters as a challenging issues in the islanded DC microgrids (DCMGs). Moreover, in the islanded DCMG the energy storage systems (ESSs) play an important role in the stability and reliability as well as the efficiency of the SPS. In order to achieve low ripple current at the battery side, low current ripple of the high current inductor, high voltage gain ration (VGR), and soft switching, this paper presents a high efficiency interleaved bidirectional DC-DC converter for the ESSs in the SPS. In the proposed converter an interleaved bidirectional buck-boost converter and a dual-active half-bridge (DAHB) are connected in series to decrease the voltage stress across the active switches. Also, active switches are operated under zero-voltage switching (ZVS) condition to realize soft-switching operation. The effectiveness and applicability of the new suggested converter are validated with the experimental results.
