In this paper, details of design of a frequency inverter for aviation instruments are investigated. The target inverter is a single-phase and has fixed frequency 400 Hz, at rated 500 VA, 115 V, that output voltage can be adjusted between 75 V to 190 V. The maximum permissive total harmonic distortion (THD) of voltage should be lower than 8%, and so, an LC low-pass power filter is employed. Deviation of output voltage around set point voltage under various load currents should be lower than 2%. Hence, in order to compensate the drop voltage across the filter, a closed-loop voltage control based on integrator (I) controller is implemented. The dc input voltage of inverter has rated voltage 28 V and it may vary between 18 V to 36 V. Therefore, a dc/dc boost converter has been designed to keep the dc bus voltage at 320 V. To verify the proposed design methodology, the performance of inverter at various conditions is simulated in Simulink.
