Synchronous reluctance machines without field excitation on the rotor suffer from low power density and low power factor. In order to overcome this challenge, permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance machines were introduced. In this paper the design and analysis of a novel Permanent-Magnet Assisted Synchronous Reluctance Machine (PMa-SynRM) topology, with Neodymium Iron Boron (Nd-Fe-B) magnets is proposed for enhancement in machine characteristics and performance. The characteristics of proposed topology including air gap flux density and electromagnetic torque are compared with a conventional PMa-SynRM using finite element method (FEM). In order to have a fair comparison, the stator dimension and winding of both motors are considered to be the same.
