The extraction of Dysprosium (III) from aqueous nitrate solution with two types of imidazolium ionic liquids (green solvent in green chemistry technology) as an extractant or as a diluent was investigated. Various parameters affecting the extraction process, including extractant concentrations of TBP and TOPO, various diluents, and stripping conditions were studied. The stoichiometric coefficients of reactive extraction equations with TOPO as a extractant and TBP as a diluent were obtained. The results showed that the extraction ability of [C6MIM]NTf2 was lower than that of [C6MIM]PF6 extractant in the pure solvent extraction condition. As a result, the extraction of Dy3+ was investigated by the addition of TOPO extractant to the extraction system. The experimental results showed that the mixture of TOPO and ionic liquid provided a better extraction efficiency. The results from various diluents showed that tri-butyl phosphate (TBP) was a better diluent for ionic liquids and the extraction efficiency from a mixture of [C6MIM]NTf2 and TBP was higher than the mixture of [C6MIM]PF6 and TBP.
