As intelligent gels were successful in water shutoff treatment, study of the behavior and their mechanisms are also considerable. In this research, a gel of sulfonated polyacrylamide copolymer and chromium triacetate as crosslinker was studied. Experiments were carried out by using gel filtration system. Accordingly, It was indicated that in the same condition, by increasing of gel length, the rupture pressure of the gel versus oil and water injection was increased linearly. By increase of the polymer concentration and increase of the rupture pressure gradient, the amount of output gel increased in both oil and water injections. Based on frequency sweep test at strain 1%, as the gel structure illustrated no rupture during the gel filtration experiments, a new mechanism could have been presented justifying the disproportionate permeability reduction phenomenon. This mechanism was described that under constant condition, the ability of the oil in gel rupture was greater than the ability of the water.
