In this research, we have investigated the effect of various coagulation baths on the morphology and permeation properties of polyethersulfone (PES) membranes. Asymmetric membranes were prepared by dry/wet phase inversion method. Dimethylformamide (DMF) was used as solvent and water, ethanol and mixture of them (50/50 v%) were used as nonsolvents. Gas permeation characteristics of samples were studied by constant pressure method for pure N2 and CO2 gases at three different pressure and constant temperature. To assess cross section structure of membranes, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used. Results showed that all samples have porous structure which changed from finger-like to sponge-like by replacing water with ethanol in coagulation bath due to change in interactions of solvent and nonsolvent with each other. Gas permeation study revealed that samples with finger-like structures have higher gas permeability (almost 2 times) but lower selectivity in comparison with membranes with sponge-like sublayer for tested gases.
