The aim of this research was to synthesize cerium dioxide hybrid catalyst based on carbon nano tubes (CNTs) as additives to diesel-biodiesel fuels for increasing the cetane number of these types of fuel compounds. Cerium dioxide (CeO2) was used as a catalyst and multi-wall carbon nano-tubes (MWCNTs) were used as the base catalyst in three concentrations of 0, 50,70 and 100ppm in net fuels (diesel and biodiesel) and in diesel-biodiesel fuel compounds including 95% diesel and 5% biodiesel (B5) compound and 80% diesel and 20% biodiesel (B20) compound. Results show that while the synthesized nano-catalyst with high special surface and while reacting with fuel combustion in the diesel engine and also its suitable distribution and stability characteristics due to having an activated carbon base, resulted in the notable increase of the cetane number. The test results showed that with the increase of nano-catalysts in various fuels, the cetane number had a greater increase, such that the highest cetane number in a 100ppm concentration of Diesel, biodiesel, B5 and B20 were reported as 5.48%, 3.8%, 5.23% and 5.7% respectively.
