The discharging of materials from a hopper is a important topic in industry thus discharging flow rate from hoppers and blockage are the focus of the current work. Many parameters control the discharge rate including the particle size, particle friction, hopper geometry, and vibrator and so on. Due to the cost of experimental apparatuses and preparing those, computational simulation has been widely used to estimate the granular material behavior and hopper condition instead of experiment, hence can be shown the parameters influence on discharging condition with lower cost. In this paper, the process of mixture discharging from hopper was simulated by the Discrete Element Method (DEM), which is the best method for granular flow simulation. Ellipse shaped particles were modeled by multisphere method. Finally, the aim of this study is to investigate the influence of adding smaller particles to main flow on discharge behavior.
