For long years solar stills have been considered as a tailored method for producing potable water in remote regions, cheaply and cleanly. In spite of numerous research activities on different types of solar stills with the goal of increasing the productivity of them, there are only a few literatures which pay attention to the quality of the distillate product. This paper investigates the chemical and microbial quality of distillate output from a simple solar still as the results can be applied to multi- solar basins. The used brackish water was contaminated bacterially and the total dissolved solids were around 3300 mg/L. The results show that the process highly eliminates microbial and chemical contaminants of the water.The distilled water dissolved solids were minor, but on the other hand, output product is very low in necessary minerals and might be harmful to be used as drinking water for long terms.That necessitates the use of post treatments in water desalination.
