A simple in situ solvent formation microextraction (ISFME) method based on the use of ionic liquid (IL) as extractant solvent and sodium hexafluorophosphate (NaPF6) as an ion-pairing agent was proposed for the concentration of trace levels of nickel. ISFME is a fast, simple and suitable method for extraction and concentration of inorganic such as metal ions from sample solutions containing a high concentration of salts. In this method, nickel ion was complexed with 2-Anilino-2H-isoindole-1,2-dione (C14N2O2H10) and extracted into an ionic liquid phase. After phase separation, the enriched analyte in the final solution was determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS).The effects of pH, the amount of ionic liquid and the concentration of C14N2O2H10 were investigated on the absorbance of nickel. A pH value of 7.0, the amount of 100 mg [Hmim][BF4], and a concentration of 1.0 × 10-3 mol L-1 of C14N2O2H10 was chosen as the optimum conditions. the presented method was successfully applied for the determination of nickel in water samples
