PES-based nanofiltration (NF) membrane are developed by addition of organic acids (ascorbic acid and citric acid) in the casting solution with different structures and acidic strengths. The prepared membranes are characterized by thickness, mean pore size, porosity, water contact angle, pure water flux, and salt rejection. The water contact angles reveal that the hydrophilicity of PES membrane significantly improves by addition of the organic acid in the casting solution. Also, addition of organic acid results in an increase in porosity and a decrease in the pore size. The experimental data indicate that addition of organic acids leads to membranes with higher pure water flux and salts rejection compared to unmodified PES one. The modified PES NF membrane with reasonable permeation and separation performance could be prepared by the addition of organic acid in casting solution.
