In this paper, a Successive Self-nucleation and Annealing (SSA) Treatment was used to evaluate the polyethylene degradation behavior. For this purpose, a linear low density polyethylene were subjected to a multiple extrusion processes for 5 times. The results of the gel content test suggested that, under the extrusion conditions of this research, the crosslinking did not occur, and degradation has proceeded from the chain branching path. The SSA results indicate that the melting temperature of the crystalline regions has not changed. However, the SSA curve shows that the amount of crystallisation has decreased, which is due to the branching of the polyethylene chains. It can be concluded that the Successive Self-nucleation and Annealing method can be used to evaluate the polyethylene degradation behavior.
