The current study investigates the effects of salinity as a restriction for bacterial growth on Clostridium acetobutylicum functionalities. For this aim, two Clostridium acetobutylicum strains, an original and a salinity-adapted one, were examined. According to the results obtained, the salinity from 0.01 to 20 g/L decreases the original strain’s growth while the salinity of 40 g/L stops its growth. However, salt concentrations from 25 to 60 g/L decreases the growth of the salinity-adapted strain. The growth and pH variations of the salinity-adapted strain were also analyzed by Design-Expert software and two associated correlations were developed. The correlations significantly forecast the strain’s behaviour with the predicted R-squared value of about 0.9.
