The scarcity of fresh water in world makes grey water an important alternative water source, particularly in arid and semi-arid areas. In this study, the reduction of COD of grey water, such that it cloud be used as irrigation water was investigatedby adsorption method using activated carbon from walnut shell. The adsorption method is selected because it is a low cost, environmentally friendly, simple and practical method to remove contaminants from the waste water. The effects of parameters such as adsorbent dose, time and temperature were investigated on COD removal rate. The results showed that two parameters including the adsorbent dose and time are more effective than temperature. The results showed that the optimum conditions for COD removal using walnut activated carbon were 1.5 g adsorbent per 100 ml grey water at 27°C and 60 min. At the optimum conditions, the removal efficiency was reached to 93.2%.
