For many years Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have been used in power plants as Transformer oil (Askarel). The release of these resistant compounds into the soil, water, and air around power plant’s zone affects the environment and human health in a dangerous way. To achieve the best method for contaminated areas, there are several factors such as environmental impacts, geographic location, minimum concentration, time and cost. Recently, research activities in Iran have been launched to find the appropriate solution to eliminate the PCB under the supervision of Tawuan Company. It is also mentioned in the document number 18 of the power plant perspective. In this study, seven different soil samples were collected from fields near a power plant in Hormozgan province, south of Iran. Different types of culture medium supplemented with PCB compounds were made to isolate indigenous bacterial strains.Identification of the isolated strains was performed using the routine microbiological method including macroscopic, microscopic and gram stain characteristics.
