The aim of this study is examining the effect of condenser surface characteristics on permeation flux in air gap membrane distillation (AGMD) system. A hydrophobic porous PTFE membrane with pore size of 0.22μm was used and experiments were conducted under different operational conditions. Tap water has been used as the feed and different condensing surface material i.e. copper, aluminum, brass, and stainless steel with similar thickness were used for this work. In each experiment, the effect of condenser material on permeation flux was examined while the other operating parameters were kept similar. The results showed that stainless steel as the condensing surface gives the maximum permeation flux (24.6 L/m².h). Also, the analysis of the surfaces showed that stainless steel had the minimum surface free energy, maximum contact angle and amximum roughness among the studied material.
