The focus of this study is the effect of yellow and white lights on the growth rate of Dunaliellasalina and production of beta-carotene by this microalgae. The light sources were yellow (587-595 nm)with illumination of 7000 lux and white (360-760 nm) LEDs with illumination of 10000 lux. The algae was cultivated in medium with slat concentration of 1 M. The results showed that growth rate of Dunaliellasalinaunder illumination of yellow light was more than that of white lamp. Optical density of culture reached to 1.97 under yellow light. The highest amount of beta-carotene was 15.7 μg per mg of biomass dry weight under yellow light at 24th day of experiment. In fact beta-carotene production under yellow light was 35% higher than white oneat the same condition. Based on the results yellow light has a great positive effect on the growth rate and the production of beta carotene in Dunaliellasalina cells.
