In this work, various polymer gels were prepared by crosslinking of aqueous solutions of polymer and crosslinker for the purpose of water shutoff treatment in oil fields. A co-polymer of sulfonated polyacrylamide (PAMPS) was used as polymer and chromium triacetate (Cr(OAc)3), polyethyleneimine (PEI) and hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) were used as a metallic crosslinker and organic crosslinkers, respectively. In order to predict the gelation time of these polymer gels, central composite design (CCD) was applied for the experimental plan. Three quadratic models were presented for the three polymer gels which was highly significant. The results showed that the polymer concentration was the main effect in all polymer gels on the gelation time. According to the optimization of polymer gels separately, the optimum conditions for three polymer gel systems obtained by solving the three equations simultaneously for the purpose of maximizing gelation time in the selected range of 12000-20000 of polymer concentration and 0.1-0.5 of crosslinker/polymer ratio.
