In this work, the effect of Cr2O3 nanoparticles is investigated on the kinetics of carbon dioxide (CO2) hydrate formation. A new series of experiments are carried out at different kinetic promoter concentrations by using a newly developed fully automated GTH (gas to hydrate) energy converter. Experimental results show that Cr2O3 nanoparticles are effective promoter at CO2 hydrate formation process such that at operating condition of 29 bar and 274.15 K and at the optimum concentration of 60 ppm of Cr2O3, the total energy saving of 54% can be observed. Also at this operating condition and optimum concentration, the gas consumed mole and induction time are 0.1 mol and 0.4 min, respectively. The presented approach is better than other energy consuming CO2 recovery processes and can have considerable industrial application for development of low cost hydrate-based carbon dioxide recovery plants.
