The present investigation highlights the effectiveness of amidoximated modified calcium alginate beads with and without entrapped functionalized SiO2 nanoparticles for adsorption of U(VI), Ni(II) and Cd(II) from aqueous solutions. For preparation of the adsorbent, SiO2 nanoparticles were modified by 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (TMPTMS) and then applied to prepare the beads. Adsorption capacities for U(VI), Ni(II) and Cd(II) were 20, 67 and 70 mg/g, respectively by amidoximated modified calcium alginate beads. Also, the adsorption capacities of these metal ions were 39, 89 and 84 mg/g, respectively by amidoximated modified calcium alginate beads with entrapped functionalized SiO2 nanoparticles. According to these results, the amidoximated modified calcium alginate beads with entrapped functionalized SiO2 nanoparticles exhibited a clear increase in adsorption capacity of all ions. The adsorption capacity of all ions was studied with a pH 4, initial concentration 120 mg/l, adsorbent dosage 1 g/l and temperature 25 oC.
