Thiol-terminated-polyurethane prepolymer and bi-propyne-urethane monomer were synthesized and subjected to a polymerization reaction in the presence of silver nitrate salt via thiol-yne photopolymerization method. In situ generation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) via radical mediated thiol-yne click reaction resulted in the creation of AgNPs at 45 nm in diameter and 1 nm in thickness. Evaluation of AFM and EDX analysis on a cross-section of the prepared nanocomposite showed the formation and proper distribution of AgNPs throughout the film, respectively. Nanocomposite film showed appropriate bactericidal activity against different microorganisms that made it suitable for some biomedical applications like wound dressings or skin tissue engineering.
