Near fault ground motions have notable characteristics such as long-period pulse type velocity time history and long period pulses caused by forward directivity effects and acceleration time history with high frequency content. These specifications of near fault earthquake records make structural responses to be different from those expected in far fault earthquakes. Soil-structure interaction can affect seismic responses of structures due to foundation flexibility and energy dissipation. In order to consider the SSI effect, the SDOF system must be replaced with an equivalent system. This study investigates the effect of soil structure interaction (SSI) on the response of single degree of freedom (SDOF) system subjected to earthquakes ground motion with forward directivity effect. Due to particular effect of near fault earthquake ground motion, the effect of soil structure interaction on dynamic response of SDOF system differed in variant records which especially have large amplitude velocity pulse of long duration in forward directivity zone.
