The purpose of the present research work is the prediction of artificial recharge impact on the aquifer by treated wastewater in Hammamet and Nabeul. After two decades of groundwater pumping, seawater intrusion has become a limiting factor for further agricultural development, and several negative impacts have occurred. Artificial recharge through percolation with treated wastewater was tested in the site of Oued Souhil (1985) located in Nabeul.
To counteract these declining water levels, artificial recharge by treated waste water from the Korba City was started in December 2008. This successful pilot project has shown the utility of ground-water resources and resulted in the current consideration of other potential artificial recharge sites within the Korba-Mida aquifer. The use of isotopes of the bore as tracers of the artificial recharge of the ground water by the wastewater treated proves to be particularly competitive by inserting within the same sample the three potential poles of mixture.
