In this work, the H2S/CH4 mixed gas permeation through Polyphenylene oxide (PPO) hollow fiber membrane and
Poly (ester urethane) urea (PEUU) flat membrane have been studied. Experiments were carried out to measure the
permeate and retentate flow rates at each outlet. The influence of pressure and temperature were taken into
consideration. The used pressures and temperatures are 50, 75 and 100 psig and ambient temperature and 40oC,
respectively. It was observed that in the concentration range of 968 to 5008 ppm H2S in methane, the permeance of
components was affected by the balance between competitive sorption and plasticization effect. The separation factor of
H2S/CH4 were in the range of 1.3-2.9, 1.7-3.6, and 2.2-3.4 at the pressure of 50, 75, and 100 psig, respectively.
Moreover, the effect of temperature on the performance of PPO membrane was studied. It was observed that the
permeability of both components of the mixtures increased with increasing temperature. The results obtained by PEUU
membrane indicated that it was a better choice to separation of hydrogen sulfide from H2S/CH4 mixtures than PPO.
