Solution polymerization of methylmethacrylate (MMA), n-Butylacrylate, n-BA(50 and 47 wt%), and 3 wt%
acrylic acid (AA), were carried out in toluene in the presence of 2 wt% organo modified montmorillonite (O-MMT)
to high conversion using dibenzoyl peroxide (0.5 and 0.6 wt%) as initiator. the effect of O-MMT, initiator
concentration and substituting 3 wt% n-BA by MMA on the paint properties were studied. Viscosity of the resins
containing nano particles increased compare with the sample with-out O-MMT. XRD analysis of the typical resin
sample showed 10.8 Aº increase in d-spacing. Abrasion resistance of the prepared paints containing nano particles
increased more than 200%. Nano particles had no effect on adhesion of the paints. A good resistance against water
and benzene of the samples were obtained.
