Reduction of energy consumption in seed production systems is important due to decreasing environmental effects and increasing economical productivity. The energy status in dryland and irrigated wheat production systems has been investigated in a field study. The required information about inputs and outputs was collected through questionnaires. The input and output energies were determined and energy indicators and energy forms were calculated by the corresponding equations. The total input energy in dryland and irrigated wheat production systems was 12085 and 20812 MJ.ha-1, respectively and the total output was 61923.62 and 132492.79, respectively. The highest share of energy consumption in dryland wheat system was related to fuel and that of irrigated wheat system was electricity. The energy productivity of irrigated and dryland wheat production system was 0.48 and 0.38, respectively. Energy efficiency in irrigated wheat production system (636.60%) was higher than that of dryland system (512.38%) whereas the share of renewable energy in dryland wheat production system (18.45%) was higher than that of irrigated system.
