Sand-clay mixtures can be frequently found within natural soil deposits. In contrast to pure sands, fines content, plasticity index, grading characteristics and mineralogy are other factors that influence sand-clay mixtures behavior in addition to classical void ratio. In particular, the concept of equivalent void ratio has been defined in order to capture the effect of mentioned factors as a single state parameter. The present paper aims to systematically review the monotonic and cyclic behavior of sand-clay mixtures through the concept of equivalent void ratio, which has been shown as an appropriate framework for predicting clayey sands behavior for practical purposes.
