Aim and Background: In the present study, the effects of copper ion and nano copper oxide on the growth pigment content and antioxidant potential of blue –green alge ,Spirulina platensis were investigated and compared. Spirulina microalgae is a valuable blue-green algae that is widely used in various food, health-cosmetic, animal food supplements, due to its nutritional value, medicinal properties, high protein, vitamins, minerals and natural pigments, including phycocyanin and carotenoids. The phycocyanin extract of this microalgae has significant antimicrobial potential, which can be a good alternative to synthetic antibiotics. Methods: Bioremoval is a new technology that uses dead or living biomass to remove heavy metals. In this study, the microalgae (cyanobacterium) Spirulina platensis was used as an adsorbent to remove copper from aqueous solutions. The aim of this research is to study the possibility or impossibility of removing the heavy metal copper by the cyanobacterium S. platensis under different environmental conditions. Removal of copper by biomass, under different conditions including different concentrations of copper was measured by HPLC. Results and discussion: The results show that nano CUO is less toxic compared to CuCl2 but due to increase in nano to CuO production for indusrial uses ,nano particle production and disposal need to be under servere controle.in the present of nano CuO radical scavenging potential increased
